AucNation Synergy in alliance with Malaysia Automotive Institute launches Vehicle Inspection Management System (VIMS) for comprehensive inspection programme for used/reconditioned vehicles

AucNation Synergy Sdn Bhd (AucNation Synergy), an automotive management solutions provider today announced a Strategic Industry Alliance with the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), during the launch of a new service by AucNation Synergy – the Vehicle Inspection Management System (VIMS). A new and innovative vehicle inspection solution for the used car industry. It is designed to provide reliable certification on the quality of used and reconditioned cars through comprehensive visual and diagnostic analyses.

AucNation Synergy is in partnership with Japan's Automobile Inspection System (AIS) providers, AucNet Inc. Japan. AIS, in Japan is one of the better known inspection companies and are used for verifying Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Nissan & Mazda used vehicles over in Japan.

VIMS is a web-based inspection which comprises two analyses – Visual Analysis (VA) using a Pen Based Computer (PBC) and Diagnostic Analysis (DA) using the On-Board Diagnostic 2 (OBD 2) device. VA covers checks on the vehicle's main frame, exterior, interior and the basic mechanical components while DA focuses on 'Health' Check on the vehicle's subsystems including engine and transmissions. Data from the analyses are then stored on a web server and are easily retrieved when needed. Customers will also receive a VIMS Certificate of Inspection with a 90-day validity within 48 hours to help them make informed decisions in their transactions. The inspection process takes just 30-40 minutes to complete. The inspection process is done without bias from any party as the company operates independently from any vehicle reseller here in Malaysia.

MAI's involvement gives some sort of endorsement by the Malaysian government towards vehicle inspections especially in lieu of the vehicle end-of-life systems that have been discussed in the Malaysian National Automotive Policy. Whilst vehicle end of life programmes are still a long way off, the systems to uplift the standards in the used and reconditioned car industry here would need to be in place.

YBhg Dato' Madani Sahari, CEO of MAI had mentioned that this collaboration  between AucNation Synergy and MAI will facilitate a comprehensive inspection training programme at the MAI training facility in Bukit Beruntung. This training programme will be the one used to train the personnel that will conduct the VIMS inspections. In addition, the two organisations will be working closely to identify protocols in current and future offerings that will address the specific needs of Malaysia's used vehicle industry.

Now VIMS is now a voluntary inspection system in which members of the public can call AucNation Synergy to arrange for VIMS. It could be beneficial when someone wishes to buy a used or reconditioned vehicle from a used car dealer or even from a private owner. So for a fee, one can get the vehicle inspected before making any decision to buy or not. The fee is somewhere in the region of RM200 for the Visual Inspection and more for the soon to be implemented OBD plug in inspection for the vehicle's ECU.

VIMS is in some ways a good move. Of course, most Malaysians would firstly state that there will be some cost incurred from their pockets. Quite obvious, but what this does is that it allows you to have some peace of mind. Imagine if the Toyota Alphard you bought from Very Sincere and Honest Used Car Sdn Bhd has only 8,888km on the clock and its a 2006 model. Note that it's now 2017 and it would be almost impossible for a MPV have such a low mileage after a decade or so of use.

How do you verify it? You go get a company like AucNation Synergy/VIMS who is endorsed by a government agency to inspect your vehicle and then you can verify the mileage and condition of the vehicle you are buying. But the good thing about this system is that the choice is in the hands of the consumers.

Right now VIMS is available in and around the Klang Valley with expansion to Penang and Johor in the very near future. The company also intends to implement VIMS nationwide with the collaboration of MAI and its incubator workshops. At the moment, 53 of these workshops around Malaysia are in talks to be registered VIMS inspectors with up to 300 nationwide in the near future. This new system also has the support from the Persatuan Pengimport Dan Peniaga Kenderaan Melayu Malaysia (PEKEMA), used car association and financial institutions (MIDF Investment as financial advisor).

According to Dato Madani, this is in line with the NAP, especially in the creation of new jobs. This inspection system requires trained personnel and AucNation Synergy has stated that their inspectors will be engineering graduates.

including our national vehicles, minus the risk of malfunction due to system conflict or

virus attack. Together with the dedicated inspection training programme, VIMS has

the potential to uplift the used and reconditioned car trade in Malaysia, and we look

forward to see the results of our collaboration."

Specifically designed using official manufacturer codes supported in the English

Language, the OBD 2 device is an innovative product resultant from the close

collaboration between VIMS and AIS as well as DENSO for technology transfer to be

used for the first time in Malaysia.

MAI also explained that the launch of VIMS is in line with the goals of the End-of- Life

Vehicle (ELV) initiative under the National Automotive Policy 2014, where about 300

inspection centres are required around Malaysia and owners are encouraged to send

their vehicles for checks to ensure safety.

The launch of VIMS is poised to pave the way for greater professionalism within the

industry with the collaborative partnership from AIS Japan and AucNation Synergy,

the training collaboration with MAI and the support from the Persatuan Pengimport

Dan Peniaga Kenderaan Melayu Malaysia (PEKEMA), used car association and
