All-New Kia Rio launched in Malaysia - Priced at RM79,888 on the road without insurance
The all-new Kia Rio has been launched here in Malaysia. It is somehow quite surprising that the outgoing model still seemed fresh in terms of styling. But then you realise that the car was first launched in 2011 globally and it is because we only received the facelift model mid 2015. So two years later, we now get the all new fourth generation Rio. This time the car is still fresh from its unveiling late 2016. It is as fresh as how freshly baked bread could be.
This new car is larger all around. Inside and outside. It keeps with the current Kia design philosophy and has actually been awarded a win at the iF Design Award 2017 for outstanding product design. It does look good from most angles. Even the previous one was a good looking little hatch. This one builds on it.
The Rio is powered by a 100ps / 133Nm 1.4liter MPI DOHC engine with D-CVVT and the engine is mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox. There is a 6 speed automatic gearbox option elsewhere but I believe this gearbox is kept for the more powerful turbo models. It is also there to keep costs down - less gears usually means less moving parts and less costs to build. Since the drivetrain is similar to the previous model, it should feel similar in terms of performance. Good enough for city driving and good enough at around the national speed limit. Not as long legged as a 5 or 6 speeder though.
Equipment levels are high. As they've all been in recent new Kia vehicles. There is a floating-type audio system with 5-inch LCD touchscreen and Bluetooth connectivity, a sunroof, fully automatic air-conditioning, 60:40 split folding rear seats that provide even more storage space than before, keyless entry, push start button, powered windows, and automatic headlights with static bending lights and even LED daytime running lights for that extra pose factor.
Safety features of the All-New Kia Rio include six airbags up front and at the sides of all passengers, ISOFIX baby seat mounts, speed sensing automatic door lock, impact sensing automatic door unlock, rear sensor, and active safety systems like ABS, ESC and HAC.
It is fully loaded and comes in at an affordable RMRM79,888 on the road without insurance, in four different colours such as Clear White, Signal Red, Smoke Blue and Silky Silver. The All-New Kia Rio will be available in showrooms nationwide.
